The volume has been used to register claims made by firms and their payment by the Education Department for providing equipment, class materials and maintenance services and other requirements for trade classes. Towards the back of the volume is a cashbook showing costs associated with the classes (presumably) and advances of money from the Education Department. Many of the firms listed in the register are from the Stawell District. Likewise, the transactions in the cashbook are with local firms and include purchases of the 'Stawell News' and the 'Stawell Times'.
