Using the SWORD and GRIT datasets as references, we mapped the global river mask with processed Sentinel-2 MSI data from the Dynamic World dataset. From all available Sentinel-2 MSI observations, we calculated water occurrence frequency, defined as the ratio of the number of detected water presences to the number of valid observations, for the 2019–2021 period. A 10% water frequency threshold was then applied to delineate river extent at maximum inundation.
