Replication Data for: Making their Mark? How protest sparks, surfs and sustains media issue attention.

This deposit contains the replication data for the paper, and comprises: (1) The STATA do file containing the data operations performed on the data to achieve the results. The do file contains the steps in creating the media attention measures, and contains the syntax to replicate all tables and figures of the paper. (2) The two original datasets in STATA format, namely Protest_Events.dta, which contains the coded protest events used in the analysis, and ENA_Items.dta, which contains the issue coded news coverage items for the public (VRT) and private (VTM) broadcaster. (3) The full supplementary appendix, which contains an overview of the variables in the protest event dataset, as well as additional robustness checks we refer to in the paper itself. (4) The full codebook for the protest events analysis.
