Evaluating local awareness in University EFL Learners

This study aimed to construct an evaluation index system for local cultural consciousness in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning using the Delphi method and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). Addressing gaps in frameworks that prioritize Anglophone cultural content, the research identified three key dimensions: Local Cognition and Understanding, Local Affective Attitudes, and Local Expression and Application, with the latter being prioritized. Critical indicators like Use of English for Local Storytelling and Promotion, Cultural Pride, and Daily Life Experiences were highlighted. The final index system offers educators and researchers a valuable tool for evaluating local cultural consciousness in EFL learners, which can inform curriculum development and teaching practices.
