This study investigates the anti-atherosclerotic effects of frog skin antimicrobial peptide 3-13 (AMP 3-13) in ApoE-/- mice fed a high-fat diet (HFD). RNA-seq was performed on peritoneal macrophages isolated from mice treated with or without AMP 3-13. Differential gene expression analysis revealed that AMP 3-13 significantly modulated cholesterol metabolism and PPAR signaling pathways, upregulating PPAR-gamma, ABCA1, and ABCG1 while downregulating CD36. These findings suggest that AMP 3-13 alleviates atherosclerosis by promoting cholesterol efflux and reducing oxidized LDL uptake in macrophage-derived foam cells.
