Two trap developmental stages of Dionaea muscipula were sequenced: (1) Juvenile stage traps that did not reach full electrical excitability, the so-called stage V (according to Maria Casser. Cytologische Untersuchungen zur Entwicklung der Sinnesborste von Dionaea muscipula Ellis. PhD thesis, Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universitaet Bonn, 1985) and (2) Adult traps that are capable of eliciting sharp action potentials (APs), so-called stage VI (as described by Dr. Maria Casser). AP-related genes highly expressed in stage VI vs stage V were first described in S. Scherzer et al. 2022 (Scientific reports).
