The data in this Map Package is compatible with GeoSciML portrayal view for geoscience data. The source of the data in this service is the Kentucky Geological Survey map database and consists of mapped geologic units throughout Kentucky. (This metadata is from the ArcMap mxd map document properties dialog). Attached to this package is also an excel spreadsheet containing a reference for the kgs_formation_code field. <div><span style='line-height: 1.38462;'><br /></span></div><div><span style='line-height: 1.38462;'>These &quot;DVGQ&quot; data (</span><a href='http://www.uky.edu/KGS/gis/DVGQ/default.html' target='_blank'>described in detail here</a><span style='line-height: 1.38462;'>) </span><span style='line-height: 1.38462;'>were digitized as a part of a project supported by the USGS National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program from 1996-2006 to digitize </span><span style='line-height: 1.38462;'>all 707 USGS 7.5-minute geologic quadrangles of Kentucky into vector format, and compile these data into 1:100,000 scale map sheets. </span><span style='line-height: 1.38462;'>These data are the same detailed geologic map data displayed on the </span><a href='http://kgs.uky.edu/kgsmap/kgsgeoserver/' target='_blank'>Kentucky Geologic Map Information Service</a><span style='line-height: 1.38462;'>.</span></div><div><br /></div><div>A map package is described in detail here: <a href='http://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/help/sharing/overview/map-package.htm' target='_blank'>http://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/help/sharing/overview/map-package.htm</a>, but is similar to a zip file in that it contains a multitude of files for portraying GIS data in ESRI products (ArcGIS and ArcPro). This map package contains a geodatabase and layer files for the Kentucky geologic map data described above.</div>
