We aim to assess the phylogenetic position of Astragalus, explore the major clades of Astragalus in eastern Asia to establish the phylogenetic framework of eastern Asian Astragalus at the sectional level, and reconstruct the character evolution of medifixed trichome type and annual habit in Astragalus. We herein employ the chloroplast genome sequences based on the genome skimming approach.
