The egg surface of insect can be served as a vehicle for vertical symbiont transmission from maternal patent to offspring. Hypochlorite and methanal are two common disinfectants for egg surface sterilization of insects. Silkworm (Bombyx mori L.) presents an excellent interspecies model for drug screening and microbe-host interaction studies. Here we explore the intestinal microecology and immune profile in silkworm after the egg surface sterilization by using high-throughput sequencing technology and real-time PCR analysis
