Mrk 609 and Mrk 883: AGN without Broad-Line RegionsquestionMark

In the past few years there have been interesting reports of naked.. Seyfert2s, objects with the narrow optical emission line spectra characteristic ofSeyfert 2s but with the bright, essentially unabsorbed Xray spectra typical ofSeyfert 1s. These AGN apparently lack broadline regions (BLRs), incontradiction of the unified model. To date, the only naked Seyfert 2s confirmedby simultaneous optical and Xray data show evidence for low accretion rates. Itis therefore important to determine if there are any examples of Seyferts withmoderatetohigh luminosities that lack BLRs. We propose simultaneous XMM andoptical observations of Mrk 883 and Mrk 609, two moderateluminosity nakedSeyfert 2 candidates, to unambiguously determine if these AGN truly lack BLRs. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
