Ware Priory, Ware, Hertfordshire. Archaeological Strip, Map and Sample Excavation and Watching Brief (OASIS ID: kdkarcha1-293404)

In November 2017 KDK Archaeology Ltd undertook a Strip, Map and Sample Excavation and a programme of Observation and Recording at Ware Priory as a requirement of Scheduled Monument Consent. The programme comprised the installation of new service drains and a new soakaway on the site. The excavation revealed a deposit of modern brick rubble beneath the turning circle tarmac, and a single large modern pit filled with building detritus, including plastics, in the soakaway. No finds, features and deposits of archaeological significance were encountered, and it appears that the area of investigation had been heavily truncated during the latter half of the 20th century as a result of the installation of the turning circle, driveway and the landscaping of the lawn area.
