Modelling of blood cells/ leukocytes moving along an artery wall towards an injury site can be directly modelled as spheres and cylinders (bluff bodies) rolling/translating along a wall as a first approximation to the problem. Understanding of the flow dynamics provides an insight to the transport of these biological cells. Two- and three-dimensional numerical simulations are performed using highly accurate spectral element codes to simulate a wide range of scenarios to understand these wall-particle interactions. Fluids Laboratory for Aeronautical and Industrial Research and Division of Biological Engineering at Monash University have been pioneering fluid dynamics research as applied to biological engineering and have international collaborations.
