Our objectives were to examine the effect of water mixing and stratification on the aquatic bacterial density, diversity and composition over different seasons and different water layers in a typical subtropical deep reservoir. Dongzhen Reservoir (25°28.97′ N, 118°58.97′ E) is located in the centre of Putian city, southeast of China. It is a typical subtropical warm monomictic reservoir.
