ORGANIC RESIDUE ANALYSIS (FTIR) OF CERAMIC SHERDS FROM SITE CrNV-61-8850, NYE COUNTY, NEVADA

Excavations of the Round Mountain Gold Corporation Shoshone Creek Data Recovery Project have exposed a large paleo-channel or levee, a cache of flakes, multiple thermal features, and a possible midden or occupation surface at site CrNV-61-8850 (26NY10398). The site is situated in Big Smoky Valley near Round Mountain, Nye County, Nevada and contains nine features and cultural materials including an assemblage of 23 ceramic fragments from a possible single Intermountain Brown Ware jar. Of the sherds from Collection Grid #1, two were submitted for organic residue analysis using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) to better understand economic activities at this site.
