Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic, non-specific inflammatory condition of the colon, characterized by recurrent flare-ups and a conspicuous absence of efficacious pharmacological treatments. We induced UC in mice using dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) and administered oral gavage with Chlorella pyrenoidosa (CP) and silibinin to investigate their anti-UC effects and potential mechanisms. Given the critical role of gut microbiota in the pathogenesis of UC, we collected the gut contents from the aforementioned mice for microbiota sequencing to determine whether CP and silibinin confer benefits to DSS-induced ulcerative colitis mice by modulating the gut microbiota.
