A nuclear dust morphology-selected sample of Seyfert 2 galaxies

We aim at completing a sample of Seyfert 2s, selected according to themorphology of their nuclear dust. We request 13 AO1 priority C objects. The maingoal of the proposal is to verify whether the Xray absorption in Comptonthinand thick Seyfert 2 galaxies is associated with different physical media.Preliminary results support the idea that the compact torus may be responsiblefor the absorption in Comptonthick objects only, whereas the Comptonthinabsorbing media could be located at much larger scale, maybe related to the hostgalaxy rather than to the nuclear environment.
