The original despatches from the Secretary of State for the Colonies to the Governor of New South Wales (the Governor of New South Wales being the administrator of Norfolk Island at this time). The despatches deal with such matters as the public accounts; land grants; sale of public buildings; arrangements for the Governors to visit the island; deaths from typhoid (1868-69); the severance of Norfolk Island from the Diocese of Tasmania (1869); changes to the International Code of Signals; custody of the Registers of Births, Deaths and Marriages; proposed transfer of the supervision of Norfolk from the Governor of New South Wales to the Governor of New Zealand; the appointment of surgeons; and the Mail Service.
