This type of record is a compendium of Inspectors reports on a particular school. It was created to ensure that schools were equipped and staffed to the Departments satisfaction, and so that a certain standard of teaching was maintained throughout the state. Rolls were taken so that the Inspector could determine the amount of funding that the school was entitled to receive.The pro-forma information at the beginning of each report details the school name and number, date of Inspectors visit, time of visit, and the Inspectors name.The Inspector wrote a report covering eight different aspects of a schools operation. These were : 1. Grounds (condition of)2. Buildings (condition of, requirements)3. Organisation of Work Programs (effectiveness of curriculum and timetable)4. Instruction of Students (performance of teacher)5. Discipline (teachers control of student behaviour)6. Number of Children Promoted (children advancing a grade and whether the promotion is justified)7. Accommodation (standard of teachers accommodation)8. Name of Head Teacher.The inspections were usually carried out twice annually, sometimes once annually.System of Arrangement/ControlThe reports are arranged in the book chronologically by date of visit.
