Microbial community characterization and molecular resistance monitoring in geriatric intensive care units in China using mNGS

A better understanding of microbial composition and diversity in geriatric ICUs is essential in developing strategies for preventing and controlling hospital-acquired infections. Our study characterized microbial communities in Chinese geriatric ICUs by performing dynamic monitoring of various surfaces over a six-month period at three-month intervals. This information will help the hospital infection prevention and control department establish new standards for routine elimination assessment, better understand the possible sources of hospital-acquired infections, and implement appropriate preventive measures.
