OECD Countries Health Indicators

**Overview**
This data package contains a wide spectrum of internationally comparable indicators that cover population demographics and population health status (including natality, mortality, quality of life and morbidity) and major determinants of health like healthcare system and services and behavioral health risk factors. It must be mentioned that OECD available data cover predominantly two major areas: population health status and healthcare services (resources and utilization).

**Description**
According to OECD, its mission is to advise “policy makers and informing public and private stakeholders and citizens on how to address demands for more and better quality health care”. As part of its mission, OECD develops “reliable statistics of health system performance and help countries benchmark their policies against high-performing health systems.” The health data for member and partner countries, and for the countries accession negotiations with OECD are continuously collected and analyzed by the OECD Secretariat, the decision based on these data being taken by OECD Council which recommends the necessary healthcare policies to be implemented by the countries in order to improve access, efficiency and quality of health care.

As mentioned in the summary the major areas that OECD available data are covering are about population heath status and health services/systems. An important component of OECD statistics are the well-known healthcare quality indicators (HCQI).
