In feather-footed pigeons, mutant alleles of PITX1 and TBX5 drive the partial redeployment of an evolutionarily conserved forelimb genetic program in the hindlimb. mRNA profiles were generated in quadruplicate by deep sequencing of forelimb and hindlimb buds from scale-footed pigeons, feather-footed pigeons, and scale-footed chicken embryos at Hamburger-Hamilton (HH) stages HH21, HH25, and HH29.
