ABSTRACT
TEAMx is an international research programme that aims at improving our understanding of exchange processes in the atmosphere over mountains and at evaluating how well these are represented in numerical weather prediction and climate models. To this end, an observational campaign spanning one complete year (15/9/2024 – 15/9/2025) and including a wide range of instrumentation in the European Alps, was organised. Here, time-series of wind profiles up to 200 m above ground based on wind lidar data collected by GeoSphere Austria during the TEAMx campaign in Kufstein, Austria are made available for download.
More details about TEAMx can be found at the TEAMx website as well as in Serafin et al. (2020) and Rotach et al. (2022).
DATA SET DESCRIPTION
Data were collected using a METEK Wind Ranger 200 lidar wind profiler, which was operated next to the meteorological station in Kufstein, Austria (490 m above sea level (asl); 12.1628°E, 47.5753°N). The instrument measures one Velocity Azimuth Display (VAD) per second, which consist of 100 radial measurements per VAD scan.
Provided are daily NetCDF files (the so-called “averaged files”). These files contain the 10-minute averaged vertical profiles automatically calculated from the instantaneous profiles by the instrument’s operational software. These files are provided “as is”, without data corrections. Please note: a version 2 of this data set will be made available in the near future, in which outliers are flagged.
For routine meteorological data from the Kufstein site please refer to GeoSphere Austria’s Data Hub. In addition, ceilometer data covering the duration of the TEAMx campaign are also available for this site on Zenodo.
DATA AVAILABILITY
Data are provided at 10 altitude levels (10 m, 40 m, 60 m, 80 m, 100 m, 120 m, 140 m, 160 m, 180 m and 200 m above ground) in 10-minute intervals for the time periods 23.10.2024 – 29.04.2025 and 12.05.2025 – 30.9.2025.
