In order to reduce pesticide residues in the soil, a strain of bacteria was isolated from the wood block of the South China Sea shipwreck and identified as Bacillus velezensis. Through experiments, it was found that it can degrade secylene, a highly persistent dinitroaniline herbicide often detected in soil.
