Genome sequencing of Tiarella polyphylla

Tiarella polyphylla D. Don, which belongs to Saxifragaceae, has a wide distribution from the Himalayas all the way east to Hokkaido. It occupies two subkingdoms in East Asia, the Sino-Japanese subkingdom, and the Sino-Himalayan subkingdom, and the unique geographical distribution pattern makes it an ideal model to test the boundary of these two floristic regions and to reveal the cause of its formation. Moreover, the whole T. polyphylla plant is usually used as medicine, mainly for treatment of bruises, asthma, audition trouble and skin eruptions.Despite its importance, molecular resources for T. polyphylla remain limited and no reference genome has been published to date. In this study, we generated a chromosome-level de novo assembly and annotation of the whole genome of T. polyphylla as the first genome for Saxifragaceae using a combination of Illumina, Nanopore long-read and Hi-C sequencing.
