We present the draft genome for a female ringneck parakeet Psittacula krameri from native Pakistan. The genome was sequenced at 75X coverage from two 125bp paired-end (PE) libraries (300bp and 500bp inserts), and two 125bp mate-pair (MP) libraries (5-7kb and 10-12kb). 13,390 of 14,052 high confidence chicken Gallus gallus genes were independently verified within the genome. This reference genome will facilitate much greater interpretation of biological process that underpin ringneck parakeet life history.
