Abstract: Distributions of West Nile Virus infection in bird hosts: An extensive range of mapped outputs has been produced showing indices of the distribution of West Nile Virus infection in birds. WNV testing data extracted from the published literature for approximately 1520 bird species, of which 788 were positive. These data consisted of the number tested and the number positive, which were summarised as the arcsine proportion of positive cases – i.e., prevalence (we call it ratio). In many cases, these test data were provided for several geographic (generally continental or sub-continental regions. These test data were then applied to three sets of bird distribution data: The IUCN Birdlife global ranges (link), which were subdivided into Breeding, non-Breeding, Resident, and Passage for each species. These data are cited as “BirdLife International and Handbook of the Birds of the World (2023) Bird species distribution maps of the world. Version 2023.1”. They are available on request at http://datazone.birdlife.org/species/requestdis. The Area of Habitat Suitability (AOH) raster datasets produced by Lumbierres et al (2020) by applying binary habitat suitability values to the BirdLife ranges referred to above, divided into Breeding, Non-Breeding, Non-Migrant, and Resident species. They are available at https://doi.org/10.5061/dryad.02v6wwq48. The eBird dataset referred to above, which consists of annual summary abundance data at 3km resolution (2021-2022). They are available to registered users at https//ebird.org/maps. These were converted into Binary Presence Absence to allow the production of species richness (i.e. species numbers) surfaces that could be compared to the AOH and Birdlife Data. The prevalence values were also applied to the annual abundance data to provide distributions of the abundance of infected and uninfected birds, expressed as either mean per species or summed abundance of all species.
