DNA metabarcoding reveals the role of jellyfish for sustaining amphipod communities during the Polar Night

We used DNA metabarcoding to investigate the winter diet of two scavenger amphipod species (Anonyx sarsi and Orchomenella minuta) and two Gammarus species (Gammarus setosus and Gammarus oceanicus) in a high-Arctic fjord, Kongsfjorden (Svalbard). We aimed to give new insights in the food composition of the amphipods and to reveal the role of jellyfish in their diet, either as jelly-falls or predation on living jellyfish.
