Sea ice is an important factor regulating global climate and a unique environment with diverse microbial communities. Yet, we know little about how the decline in sea ice coverage impacts microbial community composition, and sea ice is a hotspot of viral diversity that remains poorly studied. To further uncover the diversity of viruses in polar and subarctic sea ice, we explored the viral component of Arctic, Baltic Sea and Antarctic sea ice metagenomes.
