Arabidopsis thaliana is the most widely used model organism and a reference genome was first published in 2000. Although the sequence and gene annotations have been updated several times since then, centromeres and ribosomal DNA regions remain partially resolved. With advances in long-read sequencing technology, multiple almost complete assemblies have recently been released, paving the way for a new Arabidopsis reference genome. Here, by integrating 13 high-quality Col-0 assemblies independently generated by diverse groups around the world, we generated Col-CC, a new community-consensus genome assembly of Col-0.
