Biochar-poultry manure compost alters temperature and nitrogen dynamics during composting and improves crop growth following field application.

In a replicated composting trial, we evaluated two rates of biochar incorporation, at 20 and 40% concentration (volume/volume (v/v)), in a chicken manure and wood chip compost and compared it with an unamended control compost to better understand its impact on the composting process. To investigate the agronomic benefits of this strategy, the compost products were then utilized as a soil amendment in potato production.
