Chinese wild rice (Zizania latifolia L.), a member of the family Gramineae, is a popular aquatic vegetable in East Asia, with high nutritional and medicinal value. Although a draft Chinese wild rice genome has been assembled using next-generation sequencing, the sequence composition, organisation, and genome evolution need further study. Here, we used Nanopore sequencing and Hi-C scaffolding to generate a chromosome-level genome assembly for Chinese wild rice with a total size of 547.38 Mb and an N50 size of 4.78 Mb. The Chinese wild rice genome harbours 38,852 genes, with 58.98% of the genome comprising repetitive sequences. The updated Z. latifolia genome could serve as an important resource for Chinese wild rice comparative genomic studies between members of the Gramineae family and other plant species.
