The fungal community in Scarisoara ice cave was investigated revealing the presence of fungi with culture-dependent techniques or with the DGGE approach on up to 900 years old carbon dated ice but failing to detect the unculturable fugal part. Our goal is providing new data on the uncultured fungal diversity in Scarisoara ice cave analyzing ice cores old up to 2000 years using a high-throughput sequencing based on ITS2 region Illumina sequencing.
