The minimal research conducted on the causal agent of red leaf blotch indicates that it could be a threat to all soybean production in the United States if introduced. To be fully prepared for red leaf blotch the soybean industry must have the ability to quickly and accurately diagnose the presence of the pathogen. The lack of sequence data publically available for this fungus makes the industry vulnerable because there would be no way to accurately diagnose it if it was intentionally or accidentally introduced. The goal of this study was to conduct whole genome sequencing of freshly isolated strains of C. glycines from Africa to develop and validate accurate diagnostic tools for proper identification.
