The hypothesis tested in this research was: soil N2O production and emission from mine soils reclaimed with carbon and nitrogen substrates would be significantly greater than non-amended mine system. The outcomes of the study contradicted this hypothesis and revealed that N2O emission from amended mine soils were limited and was not significantly greater than N2O emitted by non-amended system, probably because the mine soil was excessive well-drained with >50% coarse fragments and reducing conditions needed for denitrification production of N2O rarely developed. This research work taught me the importance of failing and that we should take negative observation seriously because it gives us new directions and tells a story of its own, which is what makes it a great FailTale.
