Time Budget Survey, 1971-72, diary days

The purpose of the time use survey 1971-72 i sto provide an overview of how people use their time to various activities. The survey is to some extent inspired by the international survey Comparative Time-Budget Project, where the same study design was followed in 12 different countries (A. Szalai (red.): The Use of Time, 1972). Time use survey was conducted in order to ensure comparability with the results from the international survey.

The data material is mainly collected through diaries kept by a sample of the population. In addition, participants were asked to answer questions in person interview.

The study addresses the question of time spent in the following areas:

1. Employment
2. Business trips
3. Own work; including housekeeping, maintenance, child care, purchasing and travel
4. Personal needs
5. Education
6. Leisure; including sport and recreation, entertainment, social interaction, media and reading

This file contains data collected using diaries, with connected data from interviews.
