资源简介:
Pollutants present in stormwater runoff can severely degrade water quality in aquatic habitats. The tire-derived chemical 6PPD-quinone is one such pollutant present in stormwater that is known to significantly impact the survival of salmonids. 6PPD-quinone is derived from 6PPD, the primary antiozonant used to protect tire rubber from ozone attack and degradation. Alternative antiozonants to replace 6PPD are currently being considered for automobile tires. In addition to acceptable tire performance the feasibility of any such replacement depends on minimizing environmental impacts. This data examines the toxicity of proposed alternative antiozonants using in vivo exposures and in vitro cell lines derived from coho salmon, Chinook salmon, and rainbow trout. Ozonated product mixtures and purified quinone transformation products derived from select antiozonants was also performed.
