Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (VEEV) subtype ID was isolated from a 74-year-old patient among 1972 febrile serum samples from the peruvian amazonian. The strain is closely related (98.0-99.9%) to Peruvian strains and diverged 58 years ago. The incidence, based on IgM immunofluorescence assay, was 6.3% (n=29/462; CI=4.4-8.9) over the two rainy seasons.
