NRS-18580 | Record of prisoners' money [Mudgee Gaol]

This volume consists of date for receipt of money, name of prisoner, ledger no., amount of money held, followed by subsequent dates for purchases and prisoners' receipts for provisions in date order, with amounts paid to Bailiffs on convictions for felony, Attorney and Council fees, plus amounts paid to prisoners upon discharge.The numerous provisions provided include tea and sugar, loaves of bread, tobacco, vegetables, brandy, chops and steaks, woollen scarfs and socks, braces, handkerchiefs, oatmeal, flannel calico and drapery, moleskin trousers, bottles of balsam of aniseed, boxes of collars, tweed and cotton, postage stamps, letter registrations and telegraph messages, boxes of matches, pints of milk, military socks, boots, coats and shirts, bottles of tonic water, cheese, tins of jam, hair nets and stockings, and Christmas dinners (for December 25).Amounts paid when a prisoner was transferred to Darlinghurst Gaol, Bathurst Gaol, Dubbo Gaol, Windsor Gaol, Liverpool Asylum, and the Reception House (Darlinghurst) were also noted.
