Automatic identification of bird females using egg phenotype

Eggs from a common cuckoo (Cuculus canorus) population were analysed using calibrated digital photography (spotting pattern, size and shape) and spectrometry (color) and different methods were introduced to assign the phenotypes into family clusters. Cuckoo genealogy was inferred based on ddRAD genotyping which allows us to determine the accuracy of the automatic female assignment.
