Tunicaraptor unikontum is a predatory flagellate belonging to the clade Holozoa within Opisthokonta. Cells of T. unikontum are small and morphologically simple, closely resembling some fungal zoospores, and distinct from the predominantly parasitic or bacterivorous unicellular holozoans. Phylogenetic analyses suggest that Tunicaraptor is a novel holozoan lineage with uncertain relationship to the well-recognized Filasterean and Ichthyosporean clades.
