The blastocyst consists of epiblast, trophectoderm (TE), and primitive endoderm. The establishment of trophoblast stem (TS) cells from the TE has been reported. However, it has recently been suggested that these TS cells retain properties more similar to the post-implantation extraembryonic ectoderm than the pre-implantation TE. This study aims to establish novel naive TS cells that capture the properties of preimplantation TE.
