Côte d’Ivoire cocoa supply chain v.1.1 (2020-2022)

This database describes the subnational production and international trade of Ivorian-produced cocoa, based on using a model called 'SEI-PCS Côte d’Ivoire cocoa v1.1'. For all cocoa exports from Côte d’Ivoire, our model determines the likely department in which the cocoa was produced, using trade data, public disclosures of cooperative-trader sourcing links, as well as sustainability metrics data. We estimated the volumes sourced from every department by every trader by adding up the farmer bases (sometimes extrapolated) of cooperative-trader links within departments, and then multiplying it by the average annual cocoa production per farmer in Côte d’Ivoire. We called the remaining traded volumes that we did not link to a department of production, either ‘indirect’ if they were handled by a trader that disclosed its supplying cooperatives, or ‘unknown’ if they were handled by a trader that did not disclose its supplying cooperatives.
