Episodic Mass Loss comma Magnetic Fields and Surface Activity in Cool Hypergiants

The complex circumstellar ejecta of the most luminous, evolved cool stars revealmultiple, asymmetric mass loss events. The loops, arcs and knots were ejected atdifferent times in different directions apparently by localized processes fromseparate regions on the star. Strong magnetic fields measured in their ejectasupport suggestions that their episodic mass loss may be driven by surfaceactivity.
