High resolution root zone soil moisture mapping using a passive-passive P- and L-band approach

This thesis analysed the capability of passive microwave P- and L-band data to provide higher spatial resolution root zone soil moisture, considering the resolution and sensing depth of each frequency. The optimal method for downscaling coarse-resolution P-band brightness temperature using the finer resolution of L-band brightness temperature is identified. Subsequently, the P- and L-band passive microwave data were used for a joint root zone soil moisture retrieval. Finally, the coarse-resolution root zone soil moisture was further downscaled using active microwave P- and L-band data.
