资源简介:
In 2000, hydroelectric production accounted for 35.9 percent of Nigeria’s total power generation. Roughly 40 percent of the population had access to electricity, but the majority of this access is in highly urban areas. Only 10 percent of rural households have access to electricity. The largest dam in Nigeria is the Kainji Dam, located 100km north of Jebba. Kainji generates 11,500 MW. The dam was built with IBRD funding from the World Bank and loans from the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Italy, and the Netherlands. The dam provides hydroelectric power to Nigeria and Niger. The Jebba and Shiroro dams are the other two major hydroelectric power generators in Nigeria. The Kainji and Jebba dams are located on the Niger River, while the Shiroro dam is located on the Kaduna River. Both the Jebba and Kianji dams are undergoing renovations due to damages incurred through repeated heavier than normal rainy seasons. China Exim Bank has been involved in two dam proposals in Nigeria; the Mambila Hydropower Dam on the Benue River and the Zungeru Hydroelectric Dam on the Kaduna River. The Mambila would generate 3,900 MW, while the Zungeru would generate 950 MW. As of 2010, neither dam has begun construction. Numerous smaller dams are found through the country as they allow for stable agricultural production to occur throughout the year. Nigeria’s climate is divided between wet and dry seasons. The wet season brings rain in varying amounts. The coastal region receives around 180 cm in the west and 430 cm in parts of the east. Inland rainfalls average 130 cm over central Nigeria, but only 50 cm in the extreme north. Due to the seasonal nature of rainfall and the smaller totals inland, dams provide a steady supply of water for food production.
