Draft genome sequences for Enterococcus mundtii soil isolates from Minnesota

Enterococci are Gram-positive bacteria that are widespread in mammals, insects, and birds. They are also prevalent in the environment, including in soil and water, and are often used as fecal indicator bacteria. Some Enterococcus species are pathogenic and cause a wide range of infections. The goal of this study was to isolate and sequence enterococcal isolates from dirt samples. This is relevant to public health as it improves our understanding of how bacteria such as Enterococci may be transmitted between humans and the environment.
