Equal Marriage Consultation Responses, 2012

<P>Abstract copyright UK Data Service and data collection copyright owner.</P><br>In March 2012, the Government launched a consultation which looked at how to enable same-sex couples to get married. The consultation ran for 13 weeks, closing on 14 June 2012. Just over 228,000 responses were sent, the largest response ever received to a Government consultation at the time. These datasets contain the responses to this consultation, one set contains the responses to the specific questions posed, and the other contains coding of more detailed responses provided. <br><br><B>Main Topics</B>:<BR><br>There are two datasets available from the consultation exercise:<br>

<i>Consultation question data</i>: this contains socio-demographic data, where available, and consultation question responses from those individuals who answered at least one of the specific consultation questions in addition to question 1 - whether they agree or disagree with enabling same-sex couples to have a civil marriage ceremony. This includes: on-line consultation form responses; email, specific responses; hard-copy, specific responses; and organisation responses.<br>

<i>Open ended question data</i>: this contains the information from the coding exercise completed in order to discern the more detailed points raised in open ended responses, whether via the online consultation form, email or other correspondence, organisation response. This contains all responses to the consultation.
