Low Oxidation State s- and p-Block Compounds: Base Metals with Noble Intentions

This thesis details the synthesis and reactivity of low oxidation state complexes of group 2 and group 14 elements, using a variety of methodologies. An array of ligand systems were assessed in the stabilization of low oxidation state species, while computational studies were utilized to investigate the electronic structures and potential reaction mechanisms of these complexes.
