"Smart grid technologies can revolutionize power distribution. However, engineers can\u2019t write the software to realize this goal without large, publicly available datasets. Power companies are reluctant to share the data they collect because of consumer privacy concerns and concerns that they will expose themselves as targets of cyber-attacks. A generative model was developed for one of the most common types of smart grid data: synchrophasor network traffic. The model was developed and validated based on real synchrophasor network traffic (~4.7 million packets) obtained in a laboratory environment. This was essential to synthesize and validate realistic network traffic data. The result is a model that generates smart grid data while mitigating risks associated with exposing consumer and network information. This dataset provides synthetic data developed from this tool. Engineers and scientists can use this data to prototype smart grid software such as anomaly detection and state estimation."
