Replication Data for: A WOLF IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING: CITIZEN UNCERTAINTY AND DEMOCRATIC BACKSLIDING

This folder contains the code and data to replicate “A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing: Citizen Uncertainty and Democratic Backsliding” by Caterina Chiopris, Monika Nalepa, and Georg Vanberg. The following describes each file in the folder. main_text.R: R code to replicate Tables 4 and 5 of the main text, as well as Figures 6 and 7. Note that Figures 1-5 illustrate either assumptions of the formal model, or provide graphical intuition of its results. Table 1 summarizes information provided in the main text. Tables 2 and 3 report the phrasing of the survey experiment. appendix.R: R code to replicate Tables 1-6 and Figures 1-4 of the online appendix. Table 7 reports the phrasing of the survey experiment. save_log.R: R code to save the logs of main_text.R and appendix.R. It is sufficient to run this code, and both codes will be executed. data.csv: data from the CBOS survey experiment codebook.pdf: description of the variables in "data.csv" "output", "output/appendix", and "logs" are empty folders where the figures, tables, and logs will be stored when running the code(s).
